Background to This Scotch
Hello there everyone, Torsten here from Torsten Paul Whisky Company.
Christmas is hands down my favourite time of the year, a time of love, joy, happiness, going crazy with decorations and (of course!) dressing up in your best attire - or ugliest holiday sweater. A time to forget a bit about the fast-paced crazy life, and instead immerse oneself in the holiday ‘spirit’.
I always wished to do a Christmas/holiday edition because it just makes me so very happy. And, I hope it will make you happy as well. This year’s release marks the first holiday edition of my brand , and it features a heartwarming peaty Caol Ila 12 from an ex-bourbon barrel which I then finished in a first fill FDC ex-oloroso octave. This added some of those classic festive sherry notes, perfect for this Christmas whisky. As a set, this bottle is complimented by Roger’s PX sister cask to create two different takes on Caol Ila to brighten up your glass and warm the belly.
This year also marks the first joint bottling, done with a fellow whisky lover Roger Tan (who you may know as @rogerswhisky on Instagram). He has just launched his new , and this is his very first release. The labels are created by my brother from another mother, Bar Mirari proprietor and all-round epic dude Andrew @whiskyhobo from Indonesia who did a festive job creating a set label for both Roger and myself.
As it is also a time to reflect and be grateful, we will raise our glasses to all of you, because we love you and without all of you we could not do what we love so much. On behalf of myself and the team, Philly and Nathan, we hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and some fantastic drams!
