After 24 years of active duty service in the United States Army, 16 of which served in the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Owner and Distiller Andrew Lang decided to open Leatherwood Distillery. Our goal is to uphold the high standards that any Special Forces soldier would be proud off. THE LEGION is the nickname given to 5th Special Forces Group. Leatherwood Distillery is a tribute to the long history of selfless service, and heroic acts of the members past and present of  5th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Moonshine, white lightning, mountain dew, hooch, and white whiskey are terms used to describe high-proof distilled spirits that are generally produced illicitly. Moonshine is typically made with corn mash as the main ingredient. The word "moonshine" is believed to be derived from the term "Moonrakers" used for early English smugglers and the clandestine (i.e., by the light of the moon) nature of the operations of illegal Appalachian distillers who produced and distributed whiskey; the distillation was done at night to avoid discovery. Today moonshine is a generalized term for distilled spirits without a category. 

Our moonshine is normally called sugar shine (RUM). The process for sugar shine is similar to making wine, then distilling the must, or mash. Sugarshine is basically a pure RUM made with no grain, to add  flavor. The pure distilled spirits are then mixed with natural fruit juice to add flavors.  We also provide a pure straight sugar shine cut with the natural spring water from our spring, and a few varieties of whiskey: Tennessee Straight, Un-Aged and Sweet Feed Whiskey. Our goal is to provide a pure flavorful product and stay true to hand crafted distilled spirits. Come out and enjoy some SHINE and see our operation.
